What Is a Guarantee Cabin?
Sometimes abbreviated as GTY, a guarantee simply means you will not be assigned a specific stateroom at the time of booking. When you book a guaranteed cabin, you're being guaranteed a cabin within a specific category (Inside, Oceanview, Balcony, etc.) — but not a specific stateroom. The cruise line will assign your stateroom closer to the sailing date based on the inventory at that time, and you’re promised (guaranteed) at least that category or possibly better.
The Pros:
One of the biggest perks — you might be placed in a higher category than you paid for.
Guarantee staterooms are often offered at a discount compared to selecting your exact room.
No stressing out over finding the perfect stateroom!
The Cons:
You could end up near high-traffic areas like elevators, under a nightclub, or further from dining venues or activities.
You usually won’t know your room number until shortly before sailing — sometimes not until check-in at the port.
If you’re traveling with others and want cabins near each other, a guarantee might not be the best fit. You will NOT be able to ensure you're close together or even on the same floor or end of the ship.

Easygoing travelers looking for value and who don't mind where their stateroom is located on the ship are good candidates for this category. If you have specific preferences — like being mid-ship, near elevators or away from elevators, or avoiding noise — it's worth selecting your specific cabin instead.
Keep in mind that sometimes these staterooms are available because they are in less desirable locations. Once assigned, you usually don’t have the option to move to another stateroom, so you must be flexible if you choose a guarantee room.
