Trade New Year's Resolutions for New Horizons

A new year for many people equals a reset – a time to begin things anew. And while a lot of New Year’s resolutions call for things like eating better, exercising more, or adjusting a habit (all good things), I’d like to propose a different approach. What if this year, you challenge yourself to expand your horizons?

One thing that I love about traveling is that I always come back slightly changed. Experiencing a destination that is new or different to me opens my heart and mind to discover things that I don’t find in my everyday life. I have met wonderful people in many countries, tried foods that are delicious and outside our typical American fare, and seen amazing beauty in the landscapes and historical sites abroad. It is so much fun to be immersed, even if only for a little while, in another culture.

I am a bit of a foodie, and so on any trip, I make it a priority to experience as much local cuisine as possible! One of my favorite culinary experiences recently was in Greece. We visited a local farm that made its own sheep’s milk cheeses. They paired the cheeses with honey, fruit, and other accouterments. It was so flavorful and fresh! Plus, I got to see their family owned business, chat with the owner (who has family in my state!), and of course I came home with some local honey since the cheeses sadly would not have kept.

In Rome, we found this tiny little pizza place not far from the Trevi fountain. Here in the States we would have called it a “hole in the wall”  - and yet there was a line down the alleyway! Graffiti on the stone wall raved about the restaurant, so we stood in the line and boy was it worth it! I have so many stories to tell about food, but that’s for another blog!

Experiences like these are part of the reason why I am so passionate about travel and helping others to experience travel themselves. In the midst of a busy life, figuring out what to do, where to stay, and what to experience can feel overwhelming. One of my greatest joys is making those travel dreams a possibility for clients. Whether that destination is domestic or abroad, there are new experiences to be had and new cultures to explore.

So this year – get out there! Discover, explore, experience … and perhaps you too will find a new part of yourself!
