This evening, Walt Disney World ® announced that the popular Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, a staple event, is being cancelled this year. Many of its hallmarks – stage shows, parades and fireworks – are unable to take place in this new, unprecedented environment. With that in mind, for the safety of Cast Members and guests, the difficult decision was made to cancel the event for this year. Additionally, Disney H2O Glow Nights, the nighttime special ticket event at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, will not take place for the remainder of 2020. Guests who have already bought tickets to these events will be assisted with refunds over the coming weeks.
There is still uncertainty around Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, but we will be sure to update you as we hear more information in the coming weeks.

Memory Maker
Don’t you love those silly pictures taken on the rides, or can you stare of that precious picture
over and over of your kids meeting Mickey for the first time?
Disney offers a magical addition to your package called “Memory Maker” that captures all of
those moments to relive over and over again.
One question that all Upon A Star Agents get asked about often is, “What is Memory Maker
and is it worth it?” For those of you who have never been, or who haven't been in sometime,
Memory Maker is essentially an enhanced version of the PhotoPass service.
Memory Maker includes every picture that is taken in the park as a digital download. This is
much more convenient than the old PhotoPass CD -- especially since many newer computers
don't even have CD/DVD drives as a standard option. Now when we say every picture, we mean
every picture -- even the on-ride photos! We know where every on-ride camera is, and usually
plan to do something funny when we know a photo is going to be snapped.
Normally, we would never buy these photos after stepping off of the ride, though, opting to
spend our money on other souvenirs; but with Memory Maker, we have the luxury of reliving
each and every funny moment.
There are also lots of photo opportunities as you walk around each park. Go ahead snap that
picture in front of Cinderella Castle, or over by the Epcot Spaceship Earth icon, even below the
Hollywood Tower of Terror, or in front of the Tree of Life. There are so many photo ops to be
had.
Don’t forget to ask about extra magic shots! The fun shows up when you look at the photos on
your My Disney Experience account. There are also amazing on-ride videos!
When you pre-purchase Memory Maker at least 3 days before you arrive, you only pay $169 (as of the date of this post) and you could end up with 100s of photos to share. What a great way to create memories with your family!
Contact your Upon A Star Agent for more information about Memory Maker and how to add it to your Walt Disney World Resort package!

Dining at Maria and Enzo's
If you've followed along on any Upon A Star adventures or social media accounts, you probably know that Disney Springs is a rapidly changing and rapidly growing place! In fact, it was recently listed in a travel blog as one of the top 20 places to visit -- and I couldn't agree more!
On our recent trip in January, Brady & I ventured with our friends down to Disney Springs several times - after all, a foodie's gotta eat!
Maria and Enzo's is one of the newest eateries. It's themed - stick with me here - like an airport! The back story is that Maria and Enzo had a small bakery in the airport, but when it closed, they converted the whole thing into a dream restaurant (with the help of the owner of the Edison next door - but that's another blog post!).
As you might imagine, this restaurant serves Italian food. The views are fantastic -- overlooking the water -- and the food I had was wonderful. I loved the whole look and feel. There were travel & aviation posters lining the walls, and the room had an open and airy feel.
In addition to the main seating area, there is also a "First Class Lounge". There are no outside views, but it does have tablecloths! Due to the diners, i couldn't snag a picture of those tables.
But let's talk about the real star here - the FOOD. I love Italian food! And I really enjoyed everything! The menu is somewhat limited, but very good. The first picture was our appetizer, the Arancini di Carne (fried rice stuffed with meat ragù, peas and mozzerella). For my entree, I had the Busiate con Granchio (spiral pasta with lump crab meat) -- it tasted fresh and was so delicious! Brady had the Rigatoni, and our friends had the Spaghetti. Desserts were the Cannoli and the Sicilian Ricotta layered sponge cake.
All four of us were impressed with our food - and with our server! Martina was amazing - be sure to request her table when you go!
In terms of pricing, you are definitely going to pay over $20 per entree. Disney Dining Plans are not yet accepted; but for me, I don't mind paying for a great meal every now and again.
Want to try it for yourself? Let your Upon A Star agent know that Maria and Enzo's is a must on your next trip -- we will set it all up for you.
Buon Apetito!

The Walt Disney Company is helping Hurricane victims
We at Upon a Star Travel & Concierge are keenly aware of hurricane season, and this has been one of the worst on record. We are pleased to learn that one of the companies we love and trust has committed $2.5 million to aid in humanitarian relief efforts across Florida, the Caribbean and other areas impacted by Hurricane Irma. Their donation will support the disaster response and recovery efforts of the American Red Cross, UNICEF, Save the Children, and other nonprofit organizations.
In addition to Disney’s donation announced this week, contributions from Disney employees to eligible relief and recovery organizations will be matched dollar for dollar by Disney Employee Matching Gifts: A Program of The Walt Disney Company Foundation.
During Hurricane Irma, Walt Disney World was extremely organized and prepared, and took incredible care of their resort guests. They also, along with Disney Cruise Line, donated meals, provided storage for supplies and power-utility vehicles, donated bedding to shelters, and made rooms available for first responders. Disney will also be donating goods and services throughout the region as specific needs are identified.
Following Hurricane Harvey, The Walt Disney Company raised almost $16 million to help storm victims facing the daunting challenge of rebuilding their lives and communities. This total reflects Disney’s direct donation to the American Red Cross, personal contributions from employees matched dollar for dollar by Disney, and money raised across the Company through a variety of initiatives, including social media outreach and campaigns in Disney Stores in support of the Day of Giving, which aired August 31 across all of their media platforms.
All of these humanitarian acts are typical for Disney, who works on an ongoing basis with numerous nonprofit organizations on emergency preparedness efforts, including sharing lifesaving information with families before and during emergencies, having supplies prepositioned and at-the-ready to respond to natural disasters, and providing resources to activate large-scale responses in the event of a disaster. We are proud to be associated with this very special company!

Breaking news from Disney! Unveiled today at the D23 Expo!
Today in Anaheim, California, at the D23 Expo, the Walt Disney Company announced some MAJOR news about projects and ventures for the company through 2019. Because there is so much amazing news, we'll give it to you bit by bit!
First up - a look at what's coming to the Disney Parks in Orlando!
Walt Disney World Resort in Florida will be seeing some major changes at three of its four theme parks. Since Pandora: The World of Avatar opened at Disney's Animal Kingdom on May 27th, the imagineers are putting their skills to the test at the other three parks!
At Disney's Hollywood Studios, The Great Movie ride will be closing on August 13, 2017 to make room for Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway, Disney's first Mickey-themed, ride-through attraction. This ride will boast more Hidden Mickeys than any other attraction!
Also in Disney's Hollywood Studios, Toy Story Land will be opening in the summer of 2018! Star Wars Land, called Galaxy's Edge, will open in 2019, in both the Anaheim and Orlando parks. Guests can take control of the Millenium Falcon, and can also make a visit to the interior of a star destroyer in a hangar bay. It's important you follow instructions carefully, as bounty hunters will hunt you down if you don't!
Also for Star Wars fans, a fully immersive Star Wars-themed luxury hotel will be opening at the Walt Disney World resort. Each room will have a view of space! This technically isn't park news, but we thought we'd mention it here.
“It’s unlike anything that exists today.” Disney says. “From the second you arrive, you will become a part of a Star Wars story! You’ll immediately become a citizen of the galaxy and experience all that entails, including dressing up in the proper attire. Once you leave Earth, you will discover a starship alive with characters, stories, and adventures that unfold all around you. It is 100% immersive, and the story will touch every single minute of your day, and it will culminate in a unique journey for every person who visits.”
Moving over to Epcot, but sticking with the space theme, the popular Mission Space will be getting some new adventures for Mission Space: Green. And adjacent to the Mission Space attraction will be a new table-service restaurant that is space-themed! How cool will it be to eat in space??
A new e-ticket attraction, Guardians of the Galaxy, will be replacing the Universe of Energy Pavilion and Ellen's Energy Adventure, which will be closing on August 13th. This has been rumored for awhile, and we are happy to hear that this attraction has been confirmed!
Also new in Epcot will be a Future World overhaul, and in World Showcase, a new seamless Circlevision film in the China theater. Even more exciting - the famous Ratatouille ride from Disneyland Paris will be coming to an all-new area in Epcot's France pavilion!
A quick ride on the monorail takes us over to the Magic Kingdom from Epcot, and here there will be some new attractions as well! First, a new stage theater is coming to Main Street USA. No word yet on what will be performed there, but it will resemble Willis Theater from Walt's hometown of Marceline, MO.
In other Magic Kingdom news, the TRON Lightcycle Power Run is coming to Tomorrowland! Up until now, one had to journey to Shanghai Disneyland to ride this incredible attraction, but no longer! TRON will not be replacing Tomorrowland Speedway, but instead will be built behind Space Mountain. Look at this concept art - It looks so good there!
What a fun way to get around - on a lightcycle! And speaking of transportation, the last bit of Orlando parks news that we will share today is that there will soon be two new ways to get around the Walt Disney World Resort!
A point-to-point transportation service called "Minnie Van" (similar to Uber or Lyft), and a gondola system called the Disney Skyliner!
What do you think? Are you as excited as we are? Magical things are ahead for the Walt Disney World Resort and as always, we are super jazzed about helping all of our clients plan fabulous vacations to the Happiest Place on Earth! Call your favorite Upon A Star Agent to learn more about the new things happening and when and how you can plan a trip!
Getting Sick in Walt Disney World
I’ve been to Walt Disney World so many times I don’t even count them anymore. We took our biggest Disney Vacation to date this past June in celebration of my son’s high school graduation. Two weeks in the Florida sun! We had been dreaming about it for over a year.
I had every detail planned, without being too over scheduled. Where we would have dinners, what time we would go to another park, what days were resort time. I even had a surprise Star Wars tour and a Typhoon Lagoon Cabana reserved! Everything was packed. From itineraries, confirmations, to toiletries and clothes pins to hang wet bathing suits. I’m an expert so I’ve got lists for my lists! I know what I’m doing. I got this!
Yeah- not so much. I didn’t plan for anyone to get sick. I always pack some medicine when we travel - our prescriptions and typical medications like Advil, Rolaids, Pepto-Bismol, MiraLax, Benadryl, moleskin, Band-Aids and Neosporin. I take these every trip. I find it overwhelming to plan for everything. I know the resorts have little essential shops so if I need anything else I can stop there. That was my plan.
So when I woke up the second day of vacation feeling like I had swallowed glass, I stopped in the gift shop and bought whatever said 'sore throat' on the label. If I can go to work feeling a bit under the weather, I can certainly spend the day riding rides. I’ll just drink lots of water. Over the next couple of days my symptoms got a bit worse and I just powered through with over-the-counter medicine from the gift shop (yay Nyquil) and lots of water. I was not missing out on any of this vacation.
Then my youngest woke up on day 4 saying she must have been snoring all night because her throat was really sore. My "mom bells" went off. So, I watched her. She then got a stuffy head then stared coughing. Like her mom, she was determined to power through. Unlike her mom, she’s 12 and it doesn’t always work the same way. Add to that she’s my one kid that always gets sicker than the others. This was no different.
After 3 days, she couldn’t stop coughing. Not a little cough, but a big, barky kind of cough. Her throat only hurt in the morning and her head was super stuffy. It was the morning she woke up with half of her face looking puffy and a bloodshot eye, that I knew I needed to get her medical help; there was no way she was going to push through this.
I’ve never done this.... I’ve never needed to do this.... I don’t even know where to start. So, where do you go when you have a question at a Disney Resort? The Resort Concierge! I picked up the phone and he gave me the number for Doctors On Call Service. This company makes house (well, resort) calls. You can relax in the comfort of your room instead of waiting in a walk-in clinic or emergency room. When I researched them a little more, I found out they are available 24 hours a day to rooms at Orlando area resorts, and vacation homes. They have over 15-years in business and have a long list on testimonials on their webpage. Their goal is to get you back to your vacation.
So with a place to start, I sent the rest of the family to the park and called Doctors On Call. I was very impressed with the service. First, I was informed how they worked. The start with a phone intake. As I went to get my insurance and credit card, I was pleasantly surprised when I was transferred to a doctor who questioned me on my daughter’s symptoms, not for my payment information. The Doctor asked very thorough questions. From first symptom onset, to escalation to specific descriptions about her cough and look of her eye. He put me on hold to consult with another Doctor and was back with me in less time than it took me to pour a cup of coffee.
Now, this is where they really impressed me. They told me they couldn’t help me. What? Turns out they have a small number of diagnostics in their vehicles but felt that my daughters puffy face and eye issue required additional attention and possibly diagnostics that they would not have with them. I was told it would be a waste of my time and money to have them come out to only need to go to a facility. Wait, you don’t want to waste my time? WOW!
Then they did something remarkable…they continued to help this poor mom traveler out. The Doctor told me what to do next! I was told I would need to take her to an Urgent Care location or the ER. For Urgent Care, he gave me the number for Lake Buena Vista Centra Care. They will pick you up at your resort and take you back when you’re done, so if you don’t have a car you don’t have to worry. He then told me that WDW has its own ambulance service, that would transport my daughter to the Emergency Room. All I would have to do is call the resort Concierge and he would have them come to our door. The concierge would also be able to make arrangements to get me back to the resort once we were discharged.
We did end up at Centra Care. They accepted our medical insurance so I just had a standard co-pay. My daughter was seen quickly and diagnosed with bronchitis and a severe sinus infection. Her eye was a result of coughing so hard, she popped a blood vessel. Well-breathing treatment in-house and prescriptions for cough medicine and antibiotic were needed.
Prescriptions? Great! How do you get those without a car? Disney and their affliiates have you covered…again. Turner Drugs delivers to Walt Disney World. They deliver to the front desk so you don’t have to be there. It typically takes 2-2.5 hours to get your medicine. All I could think of was, “I’ve never even thought about prescription medicine. This is great in case we ever forget ours too”.
We started our day at 8am with the phone call to Doctors On Call and made it into Hollywood Studios for our 10:15-11:15am FastPass. We didn’t make it the entire day as planned, but we were able to get medicine into her before she went to bed. Our daughter felt so much better the next day and she was able to start recovering.

First Aid Stations: these are located inside each Theme Park. If you are in the park and feeling poorly, go here first. They often have samples of pain relievers, band-aids and antibiotic cream. They also have Thermometer strips to check for a fever, Epi-Pens, and eyewash stations. They are also air conditioned and have water and Powerade in case you are dehydrated. Some items are free and others are for purchase.
First Aid Stations in WDW can be found in the following General areas:
· Magic Kingdom, located between The Crystal Palace and Casey’s Corner, near the restrooms heading towards Adventureland.
· Epcot, located in the Odyssey Center between Future World and the World Showcase (in between Test Track and the Mexico Pavilion.)
· Hollywood Studios, located in the Guest Relations building on Hollywood Boulevard (at the front entrance).
· Animal Kingdom, located at Discovery Island, next to Creature Comforts/Starbucks and across from Terra Treats (just before crossing the bridge into Africa.)
· Typhoon Lagoon, located just behind Leaning Palms.
· Blizzard Beach, located beside Lottawatta Lodge
These facilities will also store medicine that needs to be refrigerated and hold onto a nebulizer if you need to give your child treatments.
We certainly hope that you never need to use this information, but we hope this helps in case you do!

New Frozen Ever After Fireworks Dessert Party
I was recently in California at Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure, and while I was there, I opted to splurge on the World of Color Dessert Party. It was money well-spent and my family loved every minute! Did you know that there are several dessert party options for Walt Disney World as well?
One of the newest offerings is at Epcot. Disney has recently introduced a Frozen Ever After Dessert Party! This dessert party will have two parts to it. First, guests will enjoy a special viewing area for IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth. During the nighttime show, guests will enjoy a spread of delectable desserts and drinks. Next, they will then be whisked over to Frozen Ever After to enjoy a ride on the attraction with little-to-no-wait after normal park closing time.
This is a great option for guests who wish to use their Epcot Fastpasses for Soarin' or Test Track - two very popular rides. The event will be offered on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays starting in July, replacing the IllumiNations Sparkling Dessert Party which concludes July 14th. The price will be $79 per adult and $47 per child. Ask your Upon A Star Agent about booking this special event to make your WDW trip even more magical!
Pandora: The World of Avatar
Well it's been about 2 weeks since my first amazing journey to Pandora -- the World of Avatar. And I've gotta say... I can't wait to go back! With all the hype about Star Wars Land, it seemed to me that things were pretty quiet on the Pandora-front. I'm always excited to see something new, though, and so I've been not-so-patiently waiting for what was promised to be a spectacular new land in Animal Kingdom. And then... I was privileged enough to be invited to the media event!
From the first moment we walked in, I was totally immersed. Completely and utterly amazed. Stunned. The Imagineers truly were able to bring the Valley of Mo'ara to life. The floating mountains, beautiful flora, and gorgeous water features were so amazing to look at. I loved speaking to the Cast Members working with "Alpha Centauri Expeditions"... they were all truly in character, telling us details about what each plant was.
So a bit of back story: Alpha Centauri Expeditions is the company that transports humans into Pandora, helping us to view and experience the culture of the Na'vi. In fact, they are the ones who sent me my invitation!
One of the features in this new land is "Flight of Passage". In the Na'vi culture, riding a Banshee is a rite of passage - and so of course this is something I had to Sivako ("Rise to the challenge" in Na'vi) and experience for myself. OH MY GOODNESS. I have to say that I have a new favorite ride. All of the hype is absolutely true! I'm not normally a fan of screens (except Soarin' of course!)... but this was so completely different than I expected! I could literally feel the breathing of the Banshee... feel its wings... and I gasped, yelled, gazed in wonderment, and had all the feels throughout the ride. And the queue... wow! Gorgeous!
And that's a good thing, as wait times have been reported as high as 400 minutes. FastPass is key on this one, folks! Sadly, the FastPass queue cuts out much of the beauty of the standby queue. So, try to wait for it sometime when it isn't 6 hours!
The other new attraction is the Na'vi River Journey. And wow! It is simply beautiful. A gentle boat-ride lets you see much of Pandora in all of its bioluminescent splendor. And at the end, you pass the Shaman ... and that animatronic literally made me say "wow!". The realism was incredible!
And as beautiful as it is by day, it's even more amazing at night!
And then there's the food. The Satu'li Canteen is a quick service restaurant right in Pandora. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and the was quite impressed with the food! I sampled a little of everything from the lunch menu during the preview, and then my husband and I went back for breakfast on opening day.
You can even order & pay for your food through your My Disney Experience app, so all you have to do is pick it up! Right now this feature doesn't work with the dining plan, but we did see people taking advantage of it.
There is also a refreshment area called "Pongu Pongu"... which is Na'vi for "Party Party"! I tried the Night Blossom - it was delicious! And pretty....
I also loved the Wind Trader's gift shop and all of the cool merch! And of course, I had to buy a Banshee...
