The Disney Wish -- Details Announced!

"A dream is a wish your heart makes" is a familiar tune to any Disney fan... well, after today, my heart's dream is to be on the WISH!"

Today in an incredible presentation, Disney Cruise Line revealed some major details on the forthcoming fifth ship in Disney's magical line of ocean liners. The Disney Wish will have it's maiden voyage on June 9th, 2022, and will be a five night sailing, then followed by a full slate of 3 and 4 night sailings in the Bahamas, most with stops in Nassau, all with stops on Disney's own private island, Castaway Cay.

The Wish is a ship of fantasy, a dream, a wonder, and completely full of magic, offering both familiar and reimagined experiences as well as new attractions, dining, entertainment, and much more - let's take a look at some of the incredible things you can expect on this new ship!

Perhaps the most exciting new feature is the first theme park attraction on a ship -- the AquaMOUSE! With special effects, lighting, Mickey cartoon short animation, and more, you'll be thrilled as you zoom through 760 feet of slide all across the upper deck of The Wish.

The whole family will love the Toy Story family area (with the kid appropriate Slidasauras Rex slide and a smoothie counter... called Wheezy's Freezys, of course) and adults will enjoy the Quiet Cove, created to give them a chance to relax.

Dining will be unlike any other Disney ship, offering several new restaurants, experiences, and even shows! Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure is a theatrical dinner show featuring Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf and many other surprises with world class Nordic infused cuisine, while Worlds of Marvel takes you on an Avengers Adventure as you enjoy the superhero inspired menu.

1923 is a throwback to old Hollywood and the year that Walt Disney Company began. You'll enjoy a golden age of animation with a nod to classic California in both decor and dishes.

The Disney classic "Beauty & the Beast" inspires two new dining areas and a reimagined favorite. First, Palo Steakhouse, the legendary restaurant seen on other Disney ships, will feature the cuisine we all know and love, with an atmosphere inspired by the beloved character Cogsworth. Right next door, you'll find Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallement, described as Luxury Dining, cultivated by three Michelin-starred chefs, and inspired by Lumiere. Located in between Palo and Enchanté, at the entrances of both, will be The Rose, a lounge reminiscent of the flower at the heart of Beauty's story.

And you'll see it's okay to nerd out even as an adult when you visit Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge, an adult centric bar styled as a high class spaceship, with a drink and taste menu inspired by Batuu, Tatooine, Mustafar, and other worlds in the galaxy far far away.

And after all of that, take a little time to indulge yourself in Senses Spa, while keeping fit in the redesigned Senses Fitness.

The entertainment will combine incredible new technology with Disney's traditional storytelling, beginning with the large theater area called Grand Hall, then continuing with Luna, an entertainment hub that will treat families in the day and become an adults-only spot in the evening. The Hero Zone is a futuristic sports style arena, but if you'd rather take in a flick, enjoy the Wonderland and Never Land Cinemas.

And of course, Disney Cruise Line is known for their incredible Broadway-style stage performances, and Disney Wish will be no exception, with an updated version of their cruise line favorite "Aladdin" musical, as well as new, original productions to be announced soon!

For the teens, Edge is a place were tweens and teens ages 11 to 14 can go, while Vibe is ready for the older set (ages 14 to 17), while parents can take a breather while their youngest are happy and kept busy in the It's a Small World Nursery (6mo to 3 years, with a nominal fee).

For the kids ages 3 to 12, Disney's Oceaneer Club features the incredible Marvel Super Hero Academy, where the kids... er, recruits... can become the heroes... Fairytale Hall will feature Rapunzel's Art Studio, Belle's Library... and Anna & Elsa's Sommerhus.

But where will you sleep? Oh, you ask... and Disney Wish answers. The ship features 1,254 staterooms, with over 900 of them adjoining to help with accommodating larger families. You'll find a verandah on 877 of the rooms as well!

Avengers Campus to Open June 4 at the Disneyland Resort!

Super Heroes Assemble! We are so excited that the Avengers Campus—an entirely new land dedicated to discovering, recruiting and training the next generation of Super Heroes—will open June 4, 2021 at the Disneyland Resort!

Inside Disney California Adventure park, guests will be invited to team up with the Avengers and their allies and live out their Super Hero dreams. Avengers Campus is comprised of several heroic locations, each hosted by a different Avenger to share their unique powers, technology and knowledge with recruits.

The first area is the Worldwide Engineering Brigade – also known as WEB. It brings together bright innovators like Peter Parker who have been assembled by Tony Stark to invent new technologies and equip everyday people to become Super Heroes like the Avengers. WEB will house the new WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, the first Disney ride-through attraction to feature the iconic friendly neighborhood Spider-Man! This attractions joins Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, which opened in 2017. In addition to these attractions, the Pym Test Kitchen will serve food and beverages - these food items don’t just look delicious - they also tell a story!

Superhero Encounters will certainly be among the experiences guests can look forward to! Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, the Dora Milaje, Black Widow, Ant Man and the Wasp, The Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor, and even Loki! Spider Man may even be spotted.

Remy's Ratatouille Adventure Opens October 1!

Everyone’s favorite “Little Chef” is cooking up something really big for Walt Disney World Resort’s 50th anniversary, because the grand opening of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure at EPCOT is set for Oct. 1 of this year!

That date may sound familiar, as it will also mark exactly 50 years since Walt Disney World officially opened for the first time. So Chef Remy will help us kick off “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” in Parisian style.

The island of Kauai has again changed the rules. Visitors can now quarantine for 3 days in a “resort bubble”, and once achieving a second negative test, they will be released from quarantine and free to visit the rest of the island. Alternatively, guests may visit another island, and if they achieve a second negative test within 72 hours of flying to Kauai, no quarantine will be required. We will continue to follow the latest updates for Hawaii travel.

Disney Cruise Line has released more images and teasers for the newest ship, the Disney Wish, set to join the fleet in summer of 2022. We are so excited to see the new 3-story atrium and to experience this new ship! Check out the link to see what they have released.

The Walt Disney World resort has released two great new promotions this week. The first includes 2 free park days with the purchase of a non-discounted 4-night/3 day stay. There is also a great new offer for Memory Maker. If a Memory Maker is activated between January 4 and May 19, 2021, those guests will have the option to download all videos/photos from not just that trip, but for any other trips they take prior to June 18 2021! 

The Dominican Republic has extended its free travel insurance through April of 2021. This coverage becomes active when the traveler checks into their accommodations; the insurance covers medical emergencies, ambulatory care, change fees, and medicines.

Two Cents Tuesday for December 22

This week, Disney announced that an exciting new package option will be available to guests on January 5. For packages arriving most nights January 8, 2021 through September 25, 2021, guests can receive two free park days with the purchase of a non-discounted, four-night/three-day package. This offer will be limited, so get on our list early!

In other theme park news, Universal Orlando just opened its newest hotel, Dockside Inn & Suites! This value hotel expands the resort’s onsite capacity by 2050 guest rooms. It also boasts family suites in addition to its onsite benefits.

Hawaii adjusted its quarantine requirements last week, officially dropping the quarantine period for travelers without a negative test from 14 to 10 days as per the CDC’s updated guidelines. Kauai is still opted out of the Safe Travels program at this time. More to come as this story continues to develop.

Several airlines have announced additional airlift to Cancun based on the large number of tourists flocking there. The beautiful resorts and beaches are drawing US vacationers and have been since mid-June. The air border to Mexico has remained open throughout the pandemic. This increased airlift is great news for passengers looking to go south of the border in the new year.

Over the weekend, the TSA said that it screened over 1 million passengers each day! Although this number is only about 40% of the usual numbers seen during the holiday season, it is clear that tourism is on the rise, and that people are eager to see the world again!

And don’t worry kids! We have your travel news too! It looks like there will be clear skies across the country on December 24 for the most important traveler of all - Santa Clause! Jolly Old St Nick has also been cleared to travel in the states with lockdowns, so get ready for a wonderful Christmas morning!

Two Cents Tuesday for December 15

Hey everyone this is Kelly, and I’m here with your Two-cents Tuesday: Travel News in 2 minutes!

Hawaii is expected to make changes to its Safe Travel program this week. We have seen many changes since Hawaii reopened its borders on October 15, including Kauai reinstituting a mandatory 2-week quarantine. Although specifics have not yet been announced as of this recording, it is expected that the pre-arrival test will still be required, and likely a second test post arrival will be implemented. It is also rumored that the quarantine requirements will more closely reflect the CDC’s updated guidelines. We are following this developing story.

Canada and the US have mutually agreed to keep land borders closed through January 2021. Visitors to Canada are required to observe a 14-day quarantine, and a quarantine plan is a requirement upon arrival. Transit through Canada on a layover is permitted, but those wishing to see our neighbors up north for vacation will need to wait a bit longer.

Walt Disney World has announced plans for its Festival of the Arts! For those clients ready to escape the cold, this is a great option for travel in the New Year! You can indulge your artistic side all around Epcot, as you craft, eat, and experience great art around the world! Great hotel rates are still available, and non-stop flight service is available from many airports. Military rates are also available for service members who are active or retired with 20+ years of service! 

Speaking of Disney, If you are headed to Disney World for New Years Eve, WDW has announced there will be no in-park celebrations, as the parks will close before midnight on December 31.  There will, however, be a number of bars and lounges open across select deluxe resorts on property, and they will stay open until 1am to help you ring in the new year.

Walt Disney World® Resort has taken a measured and deliberate approach to reopening their hotels, and as of today, they are now accepting bookings for: 

• Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort for arrivals beginning March 22

• Disney’s Beach Club Resort for arrivals beginning May 30

• Disney’s Wilderness Lodge for arrivals beginning June 6.

The Holiday Season is upon us, and especially  in Disney World with International Festival of the Holidays. Discover a festival like no other, featuring the  holiday traditions of  11 World Showcase nations. Taste of Epcot surrounds you in the amazing sights, sounds and flavors of the season, as celebrated by cultures near and far.

Some more changes to Hawaii Travel. The island of Kauai is now requiring a 14-day mandatory on island quarantine, regardless of negative covid test results. The Big Island is also doing mandatory testing upon arrival; it is believed that this testing will be free of charge, but we have no confirmation on that as of yet. We will stay on top of this developing story.

Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants announced it will open its first hotel in Mexico, the Kimpton Aluna Hotel, located in Tulum in the Riviera Maya, on December 18.

The hotel features 72 standard guestrooms and six luxury suites, all with private terraces offering great views. Designed to be eco-chic, with plenty of greenery and a luxurious, modern design, the Kimpton Aluna is a relaxing, vacation with plenty of open-air activities to discover.

Although it may not feel like the world is open to travel, there are actually dozens of international destinations ready to welcome Americans this winter. In many cases, travelers will need to complete a health form and present proof of a negative COVID-19 test result to gain entry but requirements vary based on the country. Here are a list places open to U.S. citizens right now  so get your pen and pad ready!

Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Belize, Bermuda, Costa Rica, Croatia, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico, St. Barts, St. Lucia, Turks and Caicos, and St. Kitts and Nevis. Reach out to your Upon a Star Agent and they'll guide you through the requirements.

Most cruise lines have suspended sailings through early 2021. Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Disney, and Carnival amongst others have suspended through February or March of next year. The situation is very fluid, but we will let you know as soon as we have further information on when we can cruise again!

Walt Disney World has recently signed a deal with Brightline that would add a train station in the Disney Springs area. While plans have already been in place for an extension from Miami to Orlando, the addition of a Walt Disney World station will open up more transportation opportunities for guests traveling to this area. Tentative completion date could be as early as 2022!

At this year’s IAAPA meeting, Josh D’Amaro presented many exciting updates for the Disney Parks around the world. IAAPA stands for the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions. Josh discussed details about the new Star Wars Galactic StarCruiser hotel, which will be a 2-night, immersive, all-inclusive experience. He also confirmed a 2021 opening for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, and announced some fun new attractions at other Disney Parks around the Globe.

The Maldives has just announced a loyalty program for travelers! The three-tiered program awards points for travel based on frequency and length of stay. This gorgeous destination has increased in popularity, and it is now reopened to US travelers. 

Delta has announced quarantine free flights to Rome from Atlanta, giving hope to travelers wanting to go abroad. Travelers would need to test negative prior to travel, and would need to meet certain requirements for entry due to European Union Restrictions. More information will be forthcoming!

As previously reported, travel to Mexico still remains popular among American travelers due to its strict safety measures and lack of testing requirements. Prices with the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales have been low -- If you are considering a Spring Break trip, this is a perfect time to book. Hawai’i continues to tighten and refine restrictions for travelers. Negative covid19 test results are a requirement within 72 hours prior to travel. Travelers who do not receive negative test results prior to departure MUST quarantine for 14 days upon arrival, regardless of whether or not negative results are received after arrival. Walt Disney World announced the return of its popular Park Hopper option as of January 1! Guests visiting the resort should make their park pass for the first park they plan to visit on a given day. Then beginning at 2pm, guests will be able to hop over to a park of their choosing. Transportation between theme parks will also be resuming January 1 for the convenience of guests.

Although we are eagerly anticipating the day when Disneyland can reopen, we are happy to report that the Grand Californian Hotel has reopened.

The pool area, shops, and eateries will not be open initially, but families wanting a beautiful hotel stay in the midst of the Downtown Disney area can take advantage of the reopening.

Buena Vista Street in California Adventure has also partially re-opened for shopping and dining. Capacity controls are in place, so wait times are to be expected for entry.

Park Hopper Option Returns to Walt Disney World® Resort!!!

Today there is much rejoicing as Disney announced their plans to reinstate park hopping as of January 2, 2021! There are some necessary modifications for health and safety, but we here at Upon A Star Travel are thrilled it’s again going to be an option!

With the updated Park Hopper® experience, Guests must make a Disney Park Pass reservation for the first park they plan to visit (reservation requirements are subject to change) AND enter that first park prior to visiting another. Additionally, there will be specific Park Hopper® hours during which this option will be available. Park Hopper® hours will start at 2 p.m. each day and end at the park’s scheduled close time. Guests will soon be able to check DisneyWorld.com/ParkHours and the My Disney Experience app for the most up-to-date Park Hopper® hours, as they could start earlier at a later date, depending on the day and park.

Park to park transportation will begin again in the new year; that transportation will be available starting shortly before the park hopping hours begin each day.

The new “character cavalcades” have begun to include seasonal floats and characters, spreading holiday joy in what has been a tough year.

Combined with an onsite hotel stay, this can be a perfect family getaway. New Hampshire residents have cause for celebration! Now instead of a mandatory 14 day quarantine after travel to a restricted area, residents can quarantine for 7 days, and then take a covid test on Day 7. If the results are negative, no further quarantine is required. This is great news for those wanting to travel!

On the international travel scene, there are many great Black Friday sales happening even now for All-Inclusive resorts across Mexico and the Caribbean. Mexico is still a hot destination for our travelers, and with many safety protocols in place, it’s a perfect place to socially distance yourself. If you want to escape the winter blues, this is a great time to plan an all-inclusive getaway! 

Cruise Line sales remain strong as people await the green light to take to the seas. Some cruise lines, including Celebrity, have even begun announcing “all inclusive” packages! Royal Caribbean has launched a “Volunteer of the Seas” form, and they are gauging interest for cruisers who want to be among the first to take the “test cruises”. Volunteers must be 18 or older. Great news for NY residents! Governor Cuomo has changed the travel restrictions! Now residents can test out of quarantine on day 4 after returning home from out-of-state locations! Once negative results have been received, you are set! This replaces the mandatory two-week quarantine that was formerly in place. Get those suitcases ready!

Hawaii re-opened its doors for travel on Oct. 15. There are stringent travel requirements, including a negative covid test 72 hours prior to arrival from an approved testing site and the use of the Hawaii Safe Travels app. Masks are required in public spaces on the islands. But we are excited that paradise is open once again!

Within the US, many states, including FL, do not require a negative covid test to travel. Theme parks including Walt Disney World in FL and Universal Orlando are open for business, and there are many protocols in place to protect health and safety. Physical distancing, mandatory masks, and temperature checks are just some of the ways safety is being put first.

Mexico is proving to be a popular destination amongst travelers, with no covid testing required! There are lots of great deals at beautiful resorts. With much of the country open and operational, this is a great international destination.

Elsewhere in the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic is welcoming visitors with no testing required, although they are randomly selecting arriving guests for onsite testing. Jamaica is permitting travel with a negative test dated 7 days prior to arrival. 

Recently, the CDC lifted the no sail ban for cruise ships. Although they are still not permitted to sail with passengers during the initial phase, this allows cruise lines to test out their new protocols with crew members first. This is a big step in the right direction! We will keep you updated as things progress.

Holidays in Walt Disney World!

With the holidays right around the corner, we have some news as to what you can expect at Walt Disney World this coming holiday season.

Holiday experiences that draw big crowds will be on hiatus this year as well, such as Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and Candlelight Processional at Epcot.

However, we are excited to share A Twinkle of Magic at Walt Disney World.

 Starting November 6th and running through December 30th, you will be able to enjoy festive décor, themed merchandise, seasonal food & beverage offerings and entertainment all across Walt Disney World Resort including at all four theme parks and Disney Springs Plus Santa Claus will make time for special pop-up appearances at each location, waving and exclaiming holiday wishes to all.

There will be festive flotillas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, there will be merry motorcades and of course Minnie Mouse will be hosting a yuletide gathering for all her friends at Hollywood & Vine starting Nov. 6. Santa Goofy will be there, along with Minnie and more in their holiday best. 

Over in Epcot, you will see holiday promenades and starting a bit later on November 27, you can celebrate highlights from the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays. Holiday kitchens will return around the World Showcase promenade with favorites like American Holiday Table featuring Slow-roasted Turkey with Stuffing and Bavaria Holiday Kitchen with dishes like Cheese Fondue in a Bread Bowl.

You can step inside World ShowPlace to enjoy the returning group, JOYFUL!, who present a journey through R&B, Gospel, contemporary and traditional Christmas and holiday music. Also, the Voices of Liberty will bring their incredible 8-part harmonies to the America Gardens Theatre stage for a special concert of favorite carols and songs of the season. There are plenty more details about this festival to come, so stay tuned.

In Magic Kingdom, character cavalcades will take on a special holiday twist, with Christmas friends on festive floats in their holiday finest. Gingerbread Men? Check! Elves and Reindeer? Check, check! And the Toy Soldiers will join the Main Street Philharmonic as they march through Magic Kingdom Park, bringing musical holiday cheer for all to hear. Plus, when night falls, special projection effects will give a festive look to Cinderella Castle this year, providing a colorful backdrop for your photos. The appearance of the iconic castle will be transformed with a rotating series of designs including a whimsical Christmas sweater and a regal overlay of red, green and gold ornamentation. This will be in place of the Castle Dream Lights.

At Disney Springs, you will discover Christmas around every corner as once again displays of elaborate decorated Christmas trees will be spread throughout this destination. In the evening, you will encounter a magical snowfall and to top it off, Jock Lindsey will once again be turning his hangar bar into Jock Lindsey’s Holiday Bar complete with a limited time festive menu.

Disney Resort Hotels will also be decked out with their iconic trees and other festive decor. Please note that gingerbread displays will not be returning this year due to physical distancing guidelines.
