The treasure of the Disney Treasure!

We visited the beautiful property of Disney Aulani resort for two nights at the end of February prior to boarding the Disney Wonder.
We stayed in a 1-bedroom DVC villa. This size room has a full kitchen, king bed, full bathroom with jetted tub, and walk in shower. In the living room is a full size pull-out sofa. This room also has a twin size fold down bed. This room would comfortably sleep a family of 5 with 1-2 smaller children. This room has two different lanais, and ours happened to overlook both the ocean and the area in which they host the Aulani luau.
We were able to sit on our balcony and watch the entire Luau show— for free! This is a great perk of these rooms.
During our stay we also visited the 3-bedroom grand villas. These have one king bed in the master bedroom, two bedrooms with two queen beds each, a fold out (full size) sofa bed, and a twin fold out bed. These rooms would sleep 12-13 people. Their views of the ocean, at the very end of each tower, is stunning. They have one very long lanai that runs the entire width of the rooms.
The star of the resort is the pool and beach area. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous. They have a long lazy river area that have 1- and 2-person tubes (complimentary) that you can float in, and there are multiple slides that dump out into multiple pool areas. There is a stunning infinity edge pool that looks out over the ocean. Aulani also has a quieter adult only pool area that is heaven. One knock on many resorts is the lack of chairs to lounge on, but Aulani does not have that problem. There are chairs everywhere including plenty on the beach that look out to the private cut-out cove area in which you can snorkel or paddle board. Those activities cost a small fee for renting the equipment. The kids splash park area is lots of fun and large. This resort really is perfect for families with kids age 3-12 years old. All families would love it here, but those with younger kids would be perfect.
How Disney themed is it? It is more island themed with some Disney touches such as characters like Stitch, Max, and, of course, Mickey & Minnie. Aulani also has that classic Disney exceptional service. Kids can go to the kid’s zone called Aunty’s Beach House, which is complimentary, while parents enjoy some alone time.
The food at Aulani is also delicious. Ama Ama Restaurant has unique island inspired dishes, and the view of the sunset on the ocean side patio is spectacular. Off the Hook, a casual poolside restaurant, is another option and you can even do mobile ordering from this restaurant. There are several bars throughout the resort for those wanting those delicious tropical refreshments. An option we took advantage of is walking across the street from the resort and picking up food from the Island Marketplace in Ko Olina. There are also a couple of non-Aulani restaurants next to the marketplace that were delicious.
Pro Tip: Three of the restaurants there do discounted Happy Hour prices from 3-5pm, so grab late lunch and drinks there to save a bit of money.
I would say the ideal amount of time would be 5-6 nights. There is so much to do on the island of Oahu from visiting Pearl Harbor, exploring the North Shore, lying on the legendary Waikiki Beach, taking a surf lesson, or enjoying fresh pineapple at the Dole plantation. We can not wait to go back. This is truly an island paradise!!!

Spreading Hope and Cheer during Social Distancing!
I am so excited to share something fun I put together over the past week. Just like all of you, we are home too! And also just like all of you, we are looking for creative ways to enjoy “social distancing”. After being inspired by a few other posts, I decided to put together a neighborhood scavenger hunt, Disney style! I asked all of our community to message me their addresses if they would like to participate, and which character or characters they would like to display in their yards, windows, or anywhere on their property! The night prior to the hunt, I compiled a list of all of the addresses. For the kids, I made a printable page they could check off all of the characters they could find.
On Sunday, we put on our ears, got in the car with a little picnic, turned on some Disney Parks music and cruised around looking for familiar friends. Their faces lit up with joy each time they spotted one. My girls had a blast and we loved waving to all of the neighbors as we drove past them!
As you can see from the pictures, it was a HUGE success. This was the second week in a row I had done one. Two weeks ago I did zoo animals. It’s been so wonderful watching the neighbors pull together for our children. Next week we’re doing an egg hunt. I’ve arranged for a very special visitor to stand in the front of the neighborhood to wave to the kids as they make their way around the neighborhood! Clue: he’s furry with big ears and a fluffy tail.
It’s a very unique time in our lives, but that can make a path for unique experiences as well. I’ve always been inspired by Fred Rogers insistence on finding the “helpers” during times of need. It’s in our nature as travel professionals to help our clients through every step of their journey. We’re still doing that, it’s just a different kind of journey right now. Have you done anything similar in your communities? Let us know! I would love some more ideas! We’re in this together!

Where's the Stage?
This week Upon A Star Eric is in Walt Disney World checking out many of the newest features and attractions. Yesterday he posted this beautiful photograph of the Chinese Theater in Hollywood Studios. Isn’t it lovely?! It’s been a while since many have seen this view as there has been a big stage and tents in front of the theater. The stage has been used for the live Star Wars show that occurred almost hourly. So while the picture is wonderful to some, my initial reaction was…
I am a Star Wars fan and love the March of the First Order and the Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away live show. I was really looking forward to showing my Star Wars-loving kids the show this summer. So I had to know what was going on.
Now, that wasn’t a good enough answer for me. So I started looking around. Turns out the stage is undergoing refurbishment to make it portable! Why 'portable'? Well, Hollywood Studios started a new evening projection show called Disney Movie Magic. This tribute to the movies shows on the Chinese Theater nightly. Removing the stage allows for more people to enjoy the show that will work in conjunction with Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular, a nighttime fireworks event. It looks like the stage will re-open on June 16th so fans can still enjoy the show this summer.

runDisney Marathon Weekend 2016
After a week of hiatus (apologies!), our blog is back in action with a report about this year's Walt Disney World® Marathon Weekend presented by Cigna! I had the honor of running during race weekend for the 3rd year in a row, and it was my husband's 4th year in a row.
As usual, it was such fun! We always like to have some days in the parks both before and after the races, so we truly were able to enjoy the full experience. We started off with a bang by going through the Expo, touring the new Disney Springs area, and we followed it up with a treat: the last night of the Osborne Lights. I will be dedicating blogs to both of these last 2 topics in the coming weeks (it's just too much for one post!)
When running a race in WDW, if you stay on property, you can always be assured that there will be transportation to the event; that being said, we aren't fans of having to wake up super early to avoid the traffic when riding a bus. We decided to stay on the monorail for quick access to and from the event. In the past, we have always been proponents of using the Race Retreat, but with this year's good forecast, we made the decision to forego it. This allowed us to sleep 'til 3am rather than rising at 2am.
We were to Epcot in fairly short order, but due to the heightened security, we ended up waiting in the line to have our bags searched for quite sometime. This resulted in our jogging to our corral (E)... so at least we got a bit of a warm up in! We heard the National Anthem being sung and knew we had to hustle. We arrived about 5 minutes before the first corral released. Close one! My advice for future races is to not bring a bag if it can be avoided. If you do, arrive early to avoid arrive to your corral late.
Weather this time around was a bit chilly for the majority of the trip, but for our Half Marathon, it was absolutely perfect. We had intended not to stop for any pictures, but ... well, who can resist when lines are short for characters you've never had a photo with? All told, we met our goal time-wise even with the stops!
Entertainment throughout the course was fun as always, and each year I feel like the corral releases are more organized. This year was no exception. Throughout the run I tried to take some video clips. Considering I was running throughout most of them, I'm impressed with my camera work (hahaha!). I've compiled everything into a little video so you can appreciate the fun of a runDisney event.
